SAMMAMISH TASTING - APRIL 2022 - Sammamish, Washington (4/30/2022)
  • 1983 Cockburn Vintage Port- Portugal, Douro, Porto
If you get a good bottle of this Port, it is one of the best of the Vintage. However, this Port has a history of TCA, which usually increases as the wine gets more exposure to air, so it was only splash decanted just prior to consumption. Dark amber in color. Raspberry, cinnamon, and red currant on the nose. Rich mouthfeel with red fruit and chocolate, and a light touch of spirit. Nice long finish.(93 pts.)
  • 1995 Quinta do Infantado Vintage Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Dark amber in color. Dark fruit on the nose with some herbal notes underneath. Very smooth flavor profile with well-balanced red fruit on the long finish. (92 pts.)
  • 1999 Quinta do Portal Vintage Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Slightly funky nose. Medium dark-amber in color. Nice red fruit profile, with only a small fraction of the funky nose appearing on the palate. Some umami and mocha notes. Very slurpable with rich palate and nice tannins on the long finish. (90 pts.)
  • 1964 Casa do Douro White Colheita Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
The Casa do Douro was a Federation of Douro grape growers created in 1932. Bottled in 2003. Orange-brown in color. Wonderful caramel square candy on the nose. Medium bodied with expansive caramel and maple syrup notes. Belgian waffle and butterscotch on the long finish. (94 pts.)
  • 1968 Krohn Colheita Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Dark amber-brown with pale yellow on the rim. Light notes of old wood and a touch of vanilla on the nose. Rich butterscotch and some caramelized sugar on the palate. Amazing balance and acidity and a great, long finish. (95 pts.)
  • J.H. Andresen 40 Year Old White Port- Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2021. Amber-orange in color. Vanilla creme, tropical fruits, and just a touch of spirit on the nose. Well-rounded mouthfeel with some great acidity and balance. Really pleasant acidity and richness on the long finish.(94 pts.)
