Tasted with Stewart on a random Friday evening because we were thirsty.
Viera de Sousa 20 Year Old White Port
Color: Light tawny and tan. Not really golden, so somewhat different than expected.
Nose: Savory pineapple, banana, some faint soft honey, and maybe some grapefruit.
Palate: Crisp and clean, on the drier end of the "non-dry" spectrum for white Ports. Good acidity that grips on the finish. There's some pineapple here on the palate, too, along with some tart peach and not-quite-ripe mango. Very good with cheese and nuts.
Score: 91 points. I would not be surprised if others were to rate this higher, but as it tends toward a drier style (but is not a Dry White) it isn't really my style. If you like a slightly drier style, check it out.
