2011 Taylor Late Bottled Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

Tasted with Stewart on a random Friday evening because we were thirsty.

2011 Taylor LBV

Color: very dark garnet and brick, opaque - or very close to opaque - center.

Nose: boisterously fruity, almost like a very young (newly bottled) Vintage Port. Mostly brambles like loganberry, mulberry, and blackberry, but also some red currant and cranberry. There's an underlying note of minerality throughout as well.

Palate: Very smooth flavors followed by grippy tannins. There's a strong hit of pure grape juice in the mid to late palate. Neither dry nor sweet, but still manages to be juicy. In addition to the fruits on the nose there's considerable black cherry and hints of other stone fruits.

Score: 92 points. An excellent LBV. Despite being filtered, I expect this to age gracefully for another 10 years and possibly 15.
