Hi Gang,

by pure luck our local speciality cheese kiosk had some authentic:

1) Queijo da Serra (Casa Matias)
2) Azeitao (Casa de Calhariz)

so I jumped on it. Pricey but so rare around here.
Ok so I'm thinking Warre LBV 1995, but would love to hear any comments.
I know these cheeses doesn't need any port they are both just that good. But hey, we like Port around here right.

Other options would be a young vintage, I'm a little low on tawnies and colheitas right now, but if I must I guess I could venture into the shops during this super busy time.

Thanks for your ideas.
Paul

I think both go well with a vintage or a LBV, but the Azeitão is great with an oaked Portuguese white wine.

Ola Joao,
I like your idea of a white wine. I just checked the on-line catalogs near my house and if I remove the all the verde and alvarinho that leaves a handful such as
Quinta da Ponte Pedrinha, Sogrape Reserva, Duas Quintas Pinto, Coroa d'Ouro Pocas douro,Reguengos alentejo,Vinho regional Ribatejano Planicie ,Vinho regional Terras do Sado Albis J.M. Fonseca ,Marquês de Marialva bairrada.

I'm not familiar with any of these.
Thanks for your input

Two other cheeses that I like with Port on occasion are aged Gouda and more so, aged Cheddar. Not great pairings but IMO, better than Stilton.

I have to admit that aged cheddar is my favourite pairing. I don't care for Blue or Stilton... just can't do it! ;)

Sometimes, I'll even admit to smoked gouda finding its way onto a plate next to some Port, usually LBVs.

I'm lacotse intolerant, but I make an exception for one cheese...which I eat by the spoon full because its so so good with port.

Serra da Estrela

Isn't that why god invented Lactaid Andy??? So you can occasionally indulge in that good stuff?!?! :D

I have to admit I have never tried it... seemingly I must as I really really love good cheese.
