Hello Everyone,
I purchased my first port last night after tasting a bit at Trader Joes. I now own a port called 6 grapes by Graham's. Very interesting, I could see myself getting into this style!
I thought I overheard the guy at the counter saying that port is different from wine in that you don't have to vacuum seal it once opened. He said you can put the cork back in and just drink at your convenience. Is this true? I'd really like to drink some tonight, like maybe in the next 5 minutes, but I don't have any wine equipment. I don't want it to go bad before I finish it.
Should I wait?

Welcome to the world of port, a world that I really enjoy and have spent many years having fun exploring and learning about this particular style of wine.
Grahams 6 Grapes is a great example of a ruby style of port. This is a style that is blended from the grapes harvested in a number of different years and from a number of different vineyards in the Duoro before being so is very consistent from year to year. If you find you enjoy it, you will know that you will enjoy this particluar port wherever you see it.
One of the big advantages of ruby ports are that they hold very well for quite a few days (a week easily) with nothing more than the stopper pushed back into the bottle.
If you plan to drink it over more than a week, keep it in the fridge and fill your glass a few minutes before you want to drink so that it has chance to warm up.
