Hi everyone!

This is David Frohman in Atlanta, and I have a high-end four bottle vintage Madeira

Please see the attached image, and you may respond in this thread or call me at

Thanks!

I can upload the image for you if you're having difficulty. I'll PM you an email address to use.

To upload, click the "Attachments" tab below the editing window (it starts out with "Options" selected).
In Attachments, click "Add files". Then select your file and confirm.

We have upload size limits, though, so you may need to use MS Paint (or any other image editing software) to reduce the size of your image before it will be allowed to upload.

Are there any knowledgable collectors or dealers who would care to post
a realistic value of each bottle (based on a private sale to a collector)?

I bought the collection in 2017, and although I know that the market has
advanced considerably don't know how that translates to these pieces.

Thanks!

I would just post it to a reputable auction asap and just check with them the reserve price beforehand.

Madeira overall seems to fetch unreasonable amounts of money, best to do it before the recession gets worse next year and there is also strong holiday buying the next few weeks.

Many thanks for your reply, Lucas!

I was hoping to do a swift sale straight to a collector, rather than
going through an auction house.

So if there are any collectors out there with an interest please do
give me a shout.

Rare Wine Company currently lists the 1907 D'Oliveiras Malvasia for $1,675, so that's at least a starting point. Note that RWC generally has rather high prices compared to other retailers... their main advantage is availability. Also note that that's the full retail price and in a private sale you most likely won't get anywhere near that. Private sales usually seem to be around 50% to 70% of full retail, but of course it depends entirely on what the buyer is willing to pay.

Many thanks, Glenn!

Do you (or anyone else here) have a realistic sense of valuations for the three other
earlier bottles (1870, 1899, 1900) in the collection?

1870 Adegas de Torreao Terrantez was not sold in auctions since 2014 (at least I couldn't find it), and the last sold price was about $1,300 (Christies). There were more other 1870 terrantez sold recently, and the prices vary greatly - for example, Acker sold 1870 Joao Romao Teixeira Campanario Terrantez for $700-$800 approx. in 2021, and 1870 Blandy`s Terrantez was going for much higher $1,600 in 2022 on Heritage (https://wine.ha.com/c/search-results.zx ... A-K-071316). A ballpark of retail prices for 1900 D'Oliveiras Moscatel you can find on https://www.wine-searcher.com/find/d+ol ... tugal/1900 - - which is from $7xx to $1,6xx. Not sure about the Welsh madeira.

I hope this would be useful to you.

I'd say a fair price would be:

1870T Torreao: 1000
1899T Welsh: 1100
1900Mo Oli: 750
1907Ma Oli: 650
