2003 Quevedo Colheita Burgundy Barrel (bottled 2022)
Day 3 of the 2022 Quevedo Prestige Advent Calendar
Color: med dark bing cherry red, opaque center. Does not look like a tawny.
Nose: bing cherry, black currant, some blueberry, faint VA that adds a slightly sour but pleasant note
Palate: lots of mellow tannins, red fruits, some ripe purple fruits, and some faint caramel or caramelized raspberries. Very slight sour note that adds roundness. Fairly big and powerful. Tastes unique… not like a tawny and also not like an LBV, but - importantly - not confused like a 10 year old can be, either. Nothing like a 20 year old Tawny.
Score: 93 points. I like this a lot, but not quite as much as I liked the 2013 Burgundy Barrel. With 2 side-by-sides now completed, it seems that the Burgundy Barrel must be what's adding the slight sour note and potentially the faint VA as well, both of which are so minor that they're adding character rather than expressing as flaws. But it is still very strange for something labeled as a "Colheita" to be this dark, red, and dense.
Note: apparently there are videos that I should have been watching! I'll catch up with those, update the 4 notes I've do so far if needed, and then proceed with the rest of the calendar.
