1997 Quevedo Colheita Tonel (bottled 2022)

Day 5 of the 2022 Quevedo Prestige Advent Calendar

Color: med dark garnet, opaque center

Nose: youngish Colheita, some spice, some red currant, some stone/minerality, very faint twizzlers, some stone fruits from a deep whiff.

Palate: smooth, rich ripe red fruits, good acidity. Some slight tanginess, but not dry. Only a few hints at tawny notes… some caramel and some faint oxidation. Faint heat late. Good complexity and depth, but the flavors are difficult to pin down as they don't really fit any pre-conceived category.

Score: 92 points. Kind of generic and pleasant as a Port, but strange as a Tawny. It tastes more like a super high quality ruby reserve or 10 year old Tawny (or even better, a blend of the two), not a 25 year old Colheita.
