For The Love Of Port

Are you sitting around with friends drinking bottles of beer while watching or do you open a special bottle of Port to enjoy the playoffs?

Isn't football a game played with the feet?

We don't have free to air live coverage of the playoffs in the UK but get a three hour highlight show tomorrow (Monday).

Now I'm drinking my way through a Warre 1985 (which is very good, better than I was expecting from other tasting note). Next on Death Row is an Andresen 1982 colheita which I had the chance to taste at our local wine shop this afternoon and was very, very impressed with - my best wine of the year, so far.

Not a big football fan and hate the Raiders (had to throw that out there :) ). But since it's actually been raining here the past couple of days, I am enjoying a 1995 Dow's Quinta do Bomfim which I decanted early this morning. TN to follow on this later, as I saved a 1/2 bottle for tomorrow to see how she does over a couple of days.

Frankly, I'd feel like I was jinxing my NY Giants if I had drank Port during the game. Beer is the only way to go with pretty much all sports, IMHO!

I drank some port during the NFL Playoff's with some cigars, but nothing fancy for a port, just the Kirkland 10 year.

I would've drank beer, but I did not have any on hand.

A couple of friends are coming by next week for the Pat's game and they do not drink port, so beer it will be...

Depends on who, if anyone, if over. If someone is over, I'd likely serve and drink beer. By myself, Port is just fine by me!

The only reason I watch the NFL , is to listen to John Madden !!
He's entertaining , off the wall , insightful , in other words everything you'd want in an Aged Tawnny .

I'm watching the playoff highlights right now, drinking my way slowly through a Warre 1985.

I was unable to catch any of the games this afternoon, I was preparing and hosting my daughter's 3rd birthday party... but my treat for almost two solid weeks of watching what I eat was to pour myself some 1997 Barros LBV while I catch up ion the highlights... or in my case, low lights. Looks like my Seahawks took quite a beating at the hands of Farve and the Packers... <sigh>

And what's worse is Brady the actor won yet another one for the Pats :x :wall:

At least the Barros '97 LBV is good... only bright spot in a dreary NFL-Saturday.

I enjoyed some Port yesterday while watching the Seattle Seahawks get their butts whipped yesterday by GB. NOTE: I am not a Seahawks fan, but will root for them as a local fan while my team is out playing golf.

Today, I am tasting a 2005 VP (my 36th) that only one other American has ever tried. It'll be in the next newsletter as this is a brand new producer and the winemaker, Rita Ferreira scored her own touchdown with this first effort. Well ... maybe a field goal, but at least she scored.

By the way, for two teams that mean nothing to me ... the SD Chargers vs. Indianapolis Colts is one great back and forth game. Indy leads 24-21 at the moment.

I will probably also watch the Giants vs. Dallas game later today.

I'm watching Alladin with my little ones ( 6 & 4 yrs ) .
Somehow , the amazement in my 4 yr old's eye blows away anything the NFL could muster .

I think hemlock should be the drink of choice for us Cowboy fans!

The last time I watched the Cowboys Staubach was in his prime .

I did see Staubach at Texas Stadium in his prime, so that makes us both old.

I think , I'm not sure mind you , but I think Tom Landry smiled once . . .

I am enjoying the game today and if Rivers can't get more juice on the ball then the INTs will continue to pile up and NE won't be stopped.

I am actually really looking forward to the NFC Championship game and Stewart is coming over for that one. Port is in our future, actually two of them.

His face and hat should have been on Mt. Rushmore . . .
Failing that , an appearance on Gilligans Island was called for . . .

I stated earlier that I would be worried that drinking Port during the game would jinx my Giants, but here they are in the SUPER BOWL and I've been drinking a nice Cabernet all evening. Maybe some Port will put them over the top in two weeks????
