PORT POD: OLD COLHEITAS - (7/3/2023)

This Port Pod tasting took place on July 3, 2023.
  • 1985 Smith Woodhouse Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Decanted four hours. Amber-ruby in color. Light herbal notes and some hints of vanilla. Well-balanced entry with firm tannins on the palate and notes of chocolate and dark fruit. Nice balance and structure on the medium-long finish. (92 pts.) (7/3/2023)
  • 1968 J.H. Andresen Porto Colheita - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2018. 500ml bottle. Dark amber-caramel in color. Aromas of orange spice, vanilla, and light hint of lemon floor polish. Some ethereal caramel notes - lively and rich like you get when watching someone hand-make caramel in a candy store. Rich entry with good balance and acidity. This has some age but seems to lack a bit of a structure. (92 pts.) (7/3/2023)
  • 1997 J.H. Andresen Porto Colheita - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Light amber in color. Slightly cloudy. Vanilla cream on the nose with some light orange spice. Well-balanced acidity and sugar. Just a slight vegetative note. There is an interesting lemon note on the long finish. (92 pts.) (7/3/2023)
  • 1974 Vinhos Oscar Quevedo Porto Colheita - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled in 2020. Dark amber in color. Light teak wood, orange spice, and molasses on the nose. Viscous mouthfeel with great, concentrated notes of roasted nuts and caramel. Very pleasant, slightly sweet profile on the very long finish. (93 pts.) (7/3/2023)
  • 1964 Poças Porto Colheita - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Clear amber-orange in color. Orange spice caramel and a touch of VA on the nose. Good acidity on the entry with orange spices, dried nuts, and some light caramel. Full-bodied with a slightly sweet profile but overall great balance. (94 pts.) (7/3/2023)
