For The Love Of Port

1937 Hooper, bottled in 1972.

I'm curious what is the probability of a Port of this profile being terrible vs being passable vs being good.

I doubt they will be able to ship, so if any of you are near Chicago feel free to pick it up. I have a feeling this one is going to go real cheap (for an 87 y.o. Port).

I doubt it will be terrible, but I also doubt it will be good. I suspect it will be somewhere in the range from "meh" to "passable" with "fine" probably being its best-case scenario.

I.e. it's going to go real cheap for a reason. I would not personally pay $100 for it.

I would agree with Glenn.

The color is not very inspiring. My guess it's going to taste from poor to simple at best. Cool bottle.

Sold for $200. Which I suppose is high for the expected quality you all suggest, but perhaps fair considering the rarity/novelty of it.

I feel like the auction market has picked up some, deals not as good as they were a year ago.

The link now shows a price realized of $240. Perhaps that is $200 plus a 20% buyers premium?

I could understand someone buying it for the novelty. I also would be willing to bet $240 spent elsewhere will yield a more enjoyable Port (or two ...).

Yeah, they tacked on BP there. I've noticed auction houses do that price revision afterwards. And I agree.
