(Released August 2023, Century Family Treasure; 62 g/l sugar, 8.60 g/l TA.) Great clarity, ~22 SRM. Smells of sweet caramel and butter, with a small floral note like perfume or floral soap. Sharp acidity, but with a good sugary body to balance it out. The strong sugar flavors and big body carry through the long finish. The flavor also suggests some fruit too, perhaps pear, to go along with the citrus. I really like the additional sugar and body that this wine presents compared to the three previous younger Sercials (1937, 1969, and 1990). 93+ points.
Disclaimer/Note: After a week of tasting on the island of Madeira, I still much prefer the sweeter wines. My scores are reflective of this preference. I'm sure if you love the drier styles you would score these Sercials and Verdelhos higher than me.
