Hello !
Just found this bottle at my local wine store, hiding in the bottom shelf. 1983 Rich & Sons LBV, bottled by J. Carvalho Macedo. Never heard of either, is it a defunct producer / merchant ?
Not tasted yet, wine seems really tawny in color, with visible sediment.

The address listed on that bottle is for Adriano Ramos Pinto. Their address is listed as 380, but their name is printed on the roof of the building at 400 as well.

Would have been released in the mid 1990’s.

Probably some excess stock that needed a home and they got a good deal for a BOB.

Would it normaly be the same wine/quality as the Ramos Pinto LBV of the same year? I'm not really familiar with the BOB practicises of port houses...

Your guess is as good as mine.

It could be a RP LBV they wanted to clear out. It could have been made for a different company wanting a BOB and there was excess left over. Could have been one of their other labels for specific regions. Just to mention a few possible origins of it.

Hopefully RP can give you some more information about it. If so, please share with us. Would love to find out.

Hello Clement and welcome to the forum. The encouraging thing is that 1983 was a good year for Ramos Pinto VP. In addition, Ramos Pinto makes some top notch LBV's. Now granted this is probably a BoB so there's a chance the grapes used won't be the top of the line ones, but I suspect this will drink very nicely whenever you open it, especially since the bottle looks like it's in excellent condition.
