Blandy's Madeira Reserve Terrantez 1899 help -- **Sold

Post by Robert Fouch »

Bottle sold. Thanks so much for the help!

Thank you so much for the information about this bottle. It's much appreciated. I'd like to sell the bottle and am asking $700 (plus shipping). A bit below the lower end of the estimates I've been given. Please let me know if you're interested. I'm in the New York City area (on Long Island, 35 minutes from Manhattan). I was hoping there might be someone local who might have interest and we could meet up, but I'm happy to ship. Just walk me through the best method. I've shipped tons of stuff as an ebay seller but never wine. I'd prefer U.S. -- less hassle -- but open to international shipping. Thanks, and best regards. Rob

Hello. I'm new to the forum and know very little about port. I helped settle an estate a few years ago and this bottle was part of it: Reserve Terrantez, Vintage 1899 Madeira, limited to 189 bottles, this bottle being No. 96, bottled and shipped by Blandy's Madeiras. I've looked into selling it, but it's not allowed on ebay, facebook marketplace, the usual places I might sell something. (I'm a part-time dealer in books, ephemera, records, etc. Helps pay for my son's college!) Does anyone know the approximate value and what the best way to go about selling it would be? I found a few similar bottles online at auction houses but don't know enough about this sort of thing to determine if this one is the same. And it seems like most auction houses want to take collections, not single bottles. I'm not looking to get max value or anything; just happy to get a fair price and sell it to someone who will appreciate it. Better than sitting on my shelf collecting dust. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If the wax capsule were in better condition, I think it would be worth over $1,000 US. With the shoddy wax capsule, I think you could get ~$800. You could try selling it on this website or on eBay. I’m sure other people on this website will have additional thoughts.

Probably bottled in the 50's-60's. It's an excellent wine. Terrantez is hot right now. Auction price $800-$1000. Retail probably $1500+.
