Hi there,

someone has send me these pictures and wanted to know the year of this ??Port/Madeira?? wine.
There is absolutely nothing left on the bottle other then this clear crown (real companhia velha port?)

Would be interesting is someone could clarify what this is and when it was produced (and maybe put a valuation on it..)

Cheers!

1. Do not intermix Real Companhia Velha with Real Companhia VĂnicola do Norte de Portugal, these are 2 different companies.
2. the pictured bottle (the glass) is from Real Companhia VĂnicola do Norte de Portugal
3. in former times (speaking 30iers, 40ies and 50ies) there was a MAJOR shortage of glass and therefore empty glass bottles were used to fill wines. I do for example have some Madeiras that had been bottled in glass bottles bearing the seal of RCVNP (as yours)
4. unless the bottler labelled or stencilled the bottle there is NO WAY to find out what is in there except opening and tasting
5. such bottles are IMHO unsaleable for reason pointed out in 4.
6. but it could turn out to be something nice...or undrinkable
7. good luck to your friend
