1955 Quinta do Noval VP

Post by Eric Menchen »

From magnum, day 1. This is darker than the other wines in the flight, 1947 Noval Nacional, 1948 Fonseca, and a 1962/1963 Noval Nacional blend. The hue is red-orange-brown, thinner at the rim, but not green. There is a little bit of haze making for good, but not perfect clarity. The aroma is pleasant, with a hint of mustiness like a cellar, along with faint fruit and a suggestion of potpourri. Thin bodied, with alcohol spirit that carries through the finish. The body improved on the second sip. Light acidity. No tannins to speak of. With time this became thicker with an improving body, and there was a tiny bit of lemon acidity in the last sip. 93 points.
