1997 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Darker than the 1996. Mint and alcohol on the nose. Although the fruit is there, this also seems a bit closed up. The tannins slowly build up to a good strong and long finish. This just needs more time but will be a very good VP. Probably not quite as good as the 1994, but not far behind. 93+ points

Andy-

Glad to see your positive note here. I'm working on sourcing this to add to my "anniversary" stash of VP. I have a mixed case so far, but none of the Vesuvio just yet.

In addition to your note, I'm curious, what your feeling is on the "prime" drinking window for this port. I'm keeping a running list of which of my '97 ports should go first, etc.

Thanks!

I think this will easily go 20+ more years and will really start coming into its own in about 10 more years...at least I have no intention of touching mine for at least that long.

Excellent, Andy, thanks!

I was doing some updating work in Cellar Tracker last night, and as it turns out, I DO have one bottle of this VP.... One of the downsides of CT, it's harder to "forget" about stuff that needs a long sleep! ;)
