Production of Madeira is now over 100,000 cases per year.
Almost all of the cases shipped to France have had salt added prior to bottling to render the wine undrinkable and it is sold as a cooking product.
Given that fact, the USA imports of Madeira are that much more meaningful in quantitative and qualitative terms.
