As this has now started discussion about an offline from the orignal post, I split it so more people can add their thoughts to Alex's oringal question. Andy


I sense a UK Titans night coming on..

Alex has already mused to me about a 1908 mini horizontal in December, to which might be added an N31 and F27, and perhaps a playoff between Graham and Fonseca, vintages '63, '66 & '70, with two or three curious geriatrics to make up the numbers - perhaps 12 decanters for 12 diners (fillet steaks, of course,,)

Would need enough participants willing to chip in to cover the expense though..

Looks like I'll be heading over to Dublin again in May... probably the week of the 12th... and this time I could arrange a pit stop in London on the way back!

I have nothing in my cellar that could add to such an evening, though, so my contribution would have to be financial. Unless my cellar's lacking could be addressed by a trip to a local Port store prior to the evening, of course!

Please give us specific dates you could make it to the UK and we will organise something. I am picking up that Malvedos 1964 tomorrow so you could take that home with you in May

I'm in.

I'll let you know as soon as the dates are firm. We're still awaiting final confirmation on the start date for a new hire for our office in Dublin, after which I'll need to head over there during their first week. The goal is May 12th, so I would probably fly over on the 12th (arriving the 13th) and then leave Dublin the 16th or 17th. I could theoretically pit stop in London for the night of the 16th or 17th.

But I haven't made any arrangements yet because the person's start date hasn't been confirmed yet.

December hey!! Looks like I might pay myself a little treat for my 30th anniversary Lets talk about this in early October, I'll be back from harvest and I'll know a bit more of what is doable with my vacation. It really sounds it could be a dreamer!

We had the 1908 Graham on New Year's and it was pretty close in youth to the '70 Grahams! '66 is a good sleeper vintage and have found them to be as impressive or more than some of 63's of recent.

I'd like to do a 27 Horizontal, as it has been difficult to try them all at one sitting. As long as there's port, and did I mention I like port? I hope to visit London soon... "London's Calling..." as the Clash sang.

Ok, finally got a confirmed start date for the new employee, and it is May 12th as expected.

So... I have a little flexibility in my travel planning. Right now I'm planning to take the 9pm BA flight out of Seattle on Monday the 12th, arriving in Dublin on Tuesday the 13th at 4pm or so. I'll need Wed-Fri to work in Dublin, but would have evenings free. It's the return flight that I can play with.

I don't know the options for sure, but I'm guessing that I can get to London on Friday night. It might not be at a "reasonable" hour to meet anyone, though. Best case I could probably set up a late afternoon flight from Dublin to London. Worst case I could fly to London on Saturday morning, and then in either case plan to leave London for Seattle on Sunday the 18th.

Does that sound like it would work?

Weekends in London don't work for me as I spend them in Edinburgh (Scotland) with my son.

But I do now have your bottle of Malvedos 1964 in my possession as I collected it from my storage people last week. Keep me posted by email if you are coming to the UK and who you are meeting as I may be able to get the bottle to you.

Since no one else has replied and you won't be available on the weekend, it looks like I should probably skip London on this trip. It was pretty short notice to be trying to arrange something anyway.

I'm sure I'll have a fall trip as well, so I'll see if I can arrange to time it with the London offline in October.

Weekends aren't good for me, either. I also tried to rearrange my visit to Dublin (planned for 4-5 June) to coincide with your visit, but no joy.

If you can get your next visit to the UK to coincide with the Cockburn offline on October 8, then let us know. It does look like we will have a great line up from recent vintages like 2003 right back to at least the 1908, if not older.

Thanks Alex, I'll make every effort to arrange a trip to encompass October 8th. That really should be about the right time for my next "project" trip; this May 12th trip isn't part of my normal business schedule.

It sounds like Derek and I now have bottles to trade, so I'm sure we'll eventually manage to work something out!
