Do you drink more Port alone ... or with others?

I know plenty of people with wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends whatever ... who do not partake when their SO opens a bottle of Port. Do you tend to drink more Port by yourself or with others?

My pleasure in Port has always involved my wife Laura.
She and I discovered Port together soon after we met about 5 years ago. I do the all of the research and purchasing and she reaps the rewards. I wouldn't have it any other way. It's a social ritual regardless of the port type. I don't drink Port alone. She however, will drink Tawneys and LBVs solo, although in my company, at the end of the evening and this happens usually on weeknights. I am still partial to VPs, and for me weekend nights were made for VP so I do most of my port drinking on weekend nights.
I am however looking forward to being able to drink with other port fanatics on the upcoming Harvest Tour! Laura will be there too and she is excited to meet and make other port loving friends as well.
Best regards,
Jeffrey Karp

I'm usually the only one drinking Port. My wife prefers red wine... so we're living embodiment of "to each his (or her) own (bottle)."

At home I am the only one drinking port but I enjoy nothing more than sharing it with others who share my passion for it.

Drinking a bottle of port at home would't be much fun without LadyR joining.
And next to that I am very lucky to have been able so share many a great bottle of port with other portlovers.

My wife and the wives of my friends are not the sort of ladies who leave the gentlemen to their ports.

As with some other responses: both.
I prefer to share my passion for Port with others who have a similar interest or are gaining interest. There is also nothing better than helping to provide that "AHA!" moment to my friends. On a recent business trip to Vancouver, an unfiltered LBV provided that moment to a good friend of mine from Ontario. I don't think his wife likes me any more!

My wife will share the Port with me. She prefers the Tawny style while I prefer rubies, in particular VP. So sometimes we will have both in the same night.
All this being said, as many of you who have read my postings will know, I will participate alone. I... er... "this guy I know" has been known to drain a bottle of Port dry in an evening and go looking for more. :help:

I appreciate the candor of those who posted here. It is interesting to see that Port seems one of those types of wines, along with Madeira that is contemplative and can be enjoyed if drinking alone. Yes, I certainly agree it is at its most enjoyable when shared with others, especially those who are interested in getting to know Port better. Yet we also see that there is notthing wrong with sipping this beverage alone either and i am sure there are many more that do so -- that for whatever reason, feel weird about posting that. Nothing wrong with it, that's for sure!

The majoraty of the time alone (Tawny). When I have visits of family and friends then we go for a VP.

Since I am the only one at home that drinks, I usually am sipping Port alone when there is an open bottle. Luckily Alex R. lives just down the street from me and it isn't hard for us to twist each others arm when a bottle or two or three gets opened

But at home, I rarely drink more than a glass or two if I'm alone. And I almost never drink when I have work the nest day. As getting up well before the rest of the world for a very long shift in my chosen profession, I prefer to have all my wits about me.

With friends its always fun but i enjoy it mostly alone - nothing better than putting the kids to bed, sitting next to a blazing fire in the winter months and enjoying a glass of port for a little down/relaxation time.

I'm the only one at home who drinks port .
My better half prefers "sex on the beach" ( try and figure that one out !! )
I get along with my mother in law ( she enjoys VP more than my better half )
Ever since I visited a porcelain god in Boston , my better half gives me an odd look whenever I open a bottle of VP .

Derek , we have beaches in Québec . . .
English humour always knocks my socks off
SO why the hell am I drinking expensive port with my mother in law ?
Because my better half is enjoying drinking sex on the beach .
Geez , must I explain the obvious

Firstly, sorry for the random q on the end of Quebeck.
Just so you know, my cousin recently moved to somewhere in Canada. I will be visiting him sometime in the next few years and will therefore be able to have an off-line with you guys assuming you live close to where he is, which is likely given that it is such a small country.

If your cousin lives near Montréal , Fred lives a few minutes from my place and there are a few other

in town as well .
Todd lives approx. 2,000 miles from my place .
Quebec really is a small nation . But dont tell anyone . . .
