'91 Rozes - Wow!

My first experience with this producer, but my first impression, based on just a quick taste of this '91 is VERY positive! This wine is quite distinctive, and different in flavor, with a very robust, delicious, and deep blackberry quality to it. I will try again after the bottle has some breathing time.

I've not had a lot of Rozes, but I have enjoyed thier 1994 unfiltered LBV and thier 40 year tawny.

Rozes has "not paid much attention" to the USA in the past. Their focus is on a specific marketplace; France. So we don't wind up with a lot of bottles of their Ports over here. Glad to hear you like the 1991 Paul, at least the initial impression. We look forward to hearing more about what you think as your bottle evolves. Thanks for posting here again!

I was very impressed by their 40YO tawny at a tasting a couple of years ago, though sadly, I've never seen it for sale. I rather liked their 1997 vintage, too.

Recently I've picked up quite a bit of Rozes, but I haven't gotten around to opening 'em up! Glad to hear such a positive note about the '91 & I'm looking forward to any subsequent impressions you may have of the bottle over a few days time.

I’ve often thought that the fact that the Nicholas chain stocks Rozès in their UK shops is evidence that they must be importing all their stock and not using British suppliers!

I’ve had the 97 on a couple of occasions. I remember thinking that it was a reasonable Port but not quite interesting enough to justify the money (I think it was about £20 ($40) a bottle, which is in the same price range as some really good SQVPs). I’ll keep an eye out for the 91. Perhaps the 97 will be that could with time!
