July 28th to Aug13th in Portugal

Post by Paul_B »

Hi all,

vacation planning time...need some tips for the Douro region.
Thinking 2 days and 2 nights, looking for a place to sleep that has a pool, close to some quintas worth visiting, baby friendly, drinkable water and bathroom in the room FTLOP friendly would be nice... So far, I have Casa do Casal dos Loivos or Quinta das Heredias...
Besides, wine and port also interested in jams, olive oils, figs, etc...

Oh and I am open to meeting up with other FTLOP members for a drink or meal.
Some of the places, I will be seen at are:
Nazare
Obidos
Sintra
Lisbon
Batalha
Leiria
Fatima

Porto and Gaia is still not confirmed. I want to go to Vinologia, we shall see if it fits in the plans.
Alentejo coast is a strong maybe

cheers
Paul

Wow that's some strong requirement.

For Portugal is just too hot during summer to visit. Still too most of the Douro is on vacation during thos dates.

Hi Fred,

I exclusively visit Portugal in the summer,(more than 10 times so far) because I'm there primarily for the beaches(which I don't have in Canada, closest would be US coast) and to see family which as you mention are on vacation so hence they have time to spend with me. Personally, I would not spend this kind of money (for myself, my wife and son) unless it is June, July, August and first half of September. But to each his own...

The only exception for me would be for one of Roy's trips where clearly the time spent outdoors vs indoors is different. And when outdoors...transport is arranged. And the dates are focused around key periods in the Port industry (bottling and harvest).

Oh and my requirements where easily met in the Chianti/Toscany region in 2006 so I don't think it is a stretch for the Douro, even if tourism infrastructure in the Douro is still under development and expansion.

cheers
Paul

Chanceleiros is such a beautifull place you can stay in Douro. Stays near Pinhão and really near La Rosa.
Info in http://www.chanceleiros.com

I usually stay in Solar dos Canavarros wich is really unexpensive and has some quintas near, like Poeira, Warre, Quinta do Portal, Lavradores de Feitoria. The rooms have WC and poeople are friendly. 2 pools

I see you are going to be in the litoral, where are the beaches. You should consider Peniche
