IVDP Port tasting in Los Angeles (Marina Del Rey) October 16
The IVDP will again be hosting a wonderful Portuguese wine and Port tasting at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Marina del Rey on October 16th. It starts at 6:30pm till 8:30pm. I went last year and it was a great time, and I'll be back again for this one. So if you go, hunt me down and say hi...I'll be the one in the FTLOP polo shirt.
It's worth stopping by to tastes some wonderful wines. Here is the list of producers (FYI, some are listed by the parent company's name, such as Sogevinus, and not under a specific Port brand).
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST PORTUGUESE WINE TASTINGS YOU COULD ATTEND HERE IN CALIFORNIA. Hope that got your attention.

Last year this was a great event and I'll be sure to make it to this year's tasting as well. Some great wines were poured and there was the opportunity to sample/compare a wide variety of wine-making styles.

It was a great evening last night and by the end of the evening the room was totally full and everyone was having a great time. I was able to meet up with fellow
members Alex R. and his wife, and Marc J. Its always great to see
members and catch up. Heres just a few little highlights of the evening.
Lots of nice wines and some great Ports. Rocha had their 1937 Colheita, Kopke had their 1957 Colheita, and many many more.
It was great to see Quinta do Infantado there pouring some Ports and a dry wine. I don't see much of their stuff around here so it was good to see them exposing people to their line up.
There also was a good mix of wines from the Douro, Dao, Alentejano, Beiras, Bairrada, Vinho Verde, Estremadura, Obidos, Ribatejo, Ribatejano, and Borba regions of Portugal.
I was also surprised to see the Symington Family Estates was pouring their Dow's Crusted Port (Bottled in 2002) as part of their line up. I am glad they were exposing it to people as now days not many people know what it is and fewer people have probably ever had a Crusted Port.
Casa Ferrerinha had thier 1997 Casa Ferrerinha Reserva Douro dry wine which was a wonderful wine. Had wonderful secondary aromas on the nose yet the palate was still so light and fresh...a keeper for sure.
There was so many it was impossible to get to them all, although I did make a decent dent in trying...amen for the spittoons! If you missed this year's event in L.A., or if you're thinking about attending one of the others, I strongly encourage you to attend. There are very few times that you can experience this many wines and Ports from Portugal in one place.

Hopefully your camera was working for this event.

This is seriously depressing that I missed out...... This would have been great. I should look on here more often.
