For The Love Of Port

I am sourcing a 1952 Leacock "Jubilee Selection Verdelho and would welcome any information/tasting notes.
I have a bit of a puzzle, however - Broadbent (Michael) has a note in Vintage Wine about a 1952 "Jubilee Selection" Verdelho but where the producer is usually noted he states "Power Drury", not Leacock. Hard to believe this is a different producer who just happenned to also produce a "Jubilee Selection" Verdelho in 1952 - who is Power Drury and are they connected (as a shipper for, maybe?) in some way, with Leacock?

Roy - after a week, the Broadbent is still orange-rind-y as hell - the 54 Leacock Verdelho is singing . . .

There are no tasting notes on any Leacock wine in the online versions of Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate. I would be interested to see what other members can access. :)

Searched Madeira Wine (thanks Peter!) which lists a 52 Power Drury Verdelho but not a Leacock 52 Verdelho - the bottles I have sourced are confirmed to reas "Leacock" with no reference to Power Drury - I know both are Madeira Wine Co. Well??

The Rara Wine Company sells a 1952 Leacock Verdelho Silver Jubilee Madeira. So there must be one. They are very exact with their descriptions. You could call them up and ask them. Mannie Berk (the owner) probably knows the whole history on this....or can find out.

There is no Leacock mentioned, so maybe they are the same thing - meaning the same wine or from the same barrels, now labeled as Leacock.

my guess would be, that this is just another example of a wine from the common stock of the MWC being sold with different labels. Leacock was founded in 1760 so it can't be a company jubilee but a jubilee of some other kind, most often related with the British monarchy. And since most of the MWC's brands were sold in GB i would guess that the MWC wanted a "Jubilee Selection" for most of the important brands.

the sad truth is, that the vintage list of the MWG is a work in progress and I am sure that there are many vintage Madeiras out there that have not yet found their way into this listing. Also I like to be 100% sure about an addition to the list. But since the RWC is rock solid, I will ad the 1952 Leacock to the list.

The MWC website has a list of the old companies that became part of the MWC. I have occasionally read about some of the old brands being used in certain markets, but there is nothing on the website.

The site also has lists of what I assume are currently available vintage/frasqueira wines for Blandy, Cossart, Leacock, and Miles. I found no mention of the 1952 Jubilee wine.

I came upon owning several octogenarian bottles of Powers Drury and have a pair of oldies left. I can honestly say that I have never been really wowed by anything of theirs which I've opened. Good but never great but commonly interesting science experiments.
