I have eaten lunch at the Taylor's lodge twice, both times out on the patio. In fact I just recently uploaded a picture taken from the patio to the PORTraits section of FTLOP - the view is fantastic!

The food is excellent, but a little more expensive than other restaurants. It is easy to spend 40 or 50 Euros per person at lunch, and probably more at dinner.

I highly recommend the restaurant!

Thanks Glenn,
I may go to Oporto in two weeks. An with the prices of the VP, and now your opinion about the food. To go to this restaurant starts being a duty for me.

Anyone else has been there? Or have any opinion about it?

Thanks :ftlop: !

Carlos,

If the restaurant at the Taylor lodge is too expensive, there is an excellent restaurant just down the street (west) from the Sandeman lodge on the waterfront. It is called Tromba Rija. I have eaten there twice as well, and the food is fantastic. It's also cheap - about 30 Euros per person for dinner, including wine.

Either restaurant would be an excellent choice!

I had a very nice lunch with Adrian Bridge there last year on the Harvest Tour. Very nice food, great view, and some decent wines :P

This restaurant is excellent. For the service, the view, the quality of the restaurant and the food, I would say that it is very cheap. The waiters are great, as soon as they notice that you have an strong interest towards Port, they don't hesitate to offer free glasses of Port or say the 20 yo for the price of the 10yo stuff like that. I've been there 4 times so far and I spend around 30 euros per meal including tips and alcohol.

Probably the best meal we had in Porto-V.N.d.Gaia was at Taylor's. I second all the other comments. Some photos:

It is always a fun time dining at the Baron Fladgate restaurant at the Taylor's Lodge in Gaia. We've been fortunate to always have Adrian Bridge or the owner/Chairman of The Fladgate Partnership, Mr. Alistair Robertson and his charming wife Gilyanne join us for lunch. Good food and the ambience and service can't be beat.

There are lots of very fine restaurants in Oporto and Gaia and if you look back a few pages, you will find the thread which has a great discussion on people's favorite dining places.

Have a great time if you do head over there. I like being there in November very much and have only been there once in December ... so far.
