I have purchased a couple of bottles off of winecommune and sometimes the auction prices can be quite good. I've got a couple of bids in right now in fact for a few '83 vintages.
Where I would be cautious is with the "buy now" items. Some of them are rediculously priced (in my opinion). For example, a '94 Fonseca is listed for $184. A Taylor '92 for $260. Graham's 20y Tawny for $63. That doesn't even include shipping. I can get a Graham's 20y at one of the local wine shops for under $50.
Mike.

Ted,
I think you may have done just as well by offering those bottles here first. An $1800 bottle sold here on THIS Forum just recently and lots of other Port is now being bought and sold here. Winecommune is ok, but I think many of us who are getting to know one another ... feel a good trust level with those that have been here awhile or can offer some comfort level.
Why not make the offer here too and see which venue sells your wine for you?
I have had both of those wines although the 2000 Vargellas VV only once, before it was released to the public and enjoyed it quite a bit. The 2003 Nacional is a no-brainer ... IF ... the price is fair.
Nice to see you posting here!

Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
Fortheloveofport will soon replace sites like winecommune...
at least for port. Thanks for investing so much heart and soul into this site, Roy.

Ted,
I certainly understand the dilemma and didn't know there was a seller's premium there but I don't ever visit winecommune.com (at least not in the past 3 years). Anyway, I'd like to say this about the 2003 Nacional pricing you offered @ $575.
I was at a pre-release tasting in June with the Managing Director of Noval, Christian Seely and that afternoon his US agent was offering the wine to the trade only ... for one week, at the wholesale price of $600. So you must have received one heck of a deal. Congrats and to the lucky buyer ... this is a great wine at a fantastic price fwiw!
Good luck!
