Hi!
As I'm new (since yesterday) in Maderira Forum, and wine. I'm going to present my self.
My name is Carlos, I live in Valencia (Spain). I'm a wine lover. And I'm a beginner in Madeira wine.
It has any similarity the madeira of malvasia (malmsey) wine with the malvasia wines from the Canary islands?

Hello Carlos,
Welcome to the Madeira forum.
I can't say I've had any Canary Islands Malvasia, but I know that these were marketed for many years as "Madeira." I'm assuming that the EU doesn't allow this anymore. Alex Liddel in his book on Madeira, if I remember correctly, that "Canary" was one of the better substitutes for real Madeira.

Thanks Eric, I didn't know it.
Does any one knows anything else?

I just have learn that they do still making malvasia fortified wines. And that they do have a very good evolution in the bottle.
As is dificult to find them outside of the islands, next time I'll go (I usually go every year) I will buy some to try them.

Dear Carlos,
even today there is still some sweet wines made on the Canarys, especially on Teneriffe, mainly from Malvasia grapes. Even though these wines lack the power and compexity of real Madeira (In my humble opinion) I very much enjoyed them and also took a couple of bottles home. They kept well and after some years reminded me a little of a Moscatel de Setubal.
There are two pictures in MWG that you might find interesting:

Also there is a very interesting wine museum on Teneriffe at El Sauzal:
Autopista general del Norte, Km 21

C/ San Simón 49.

The picture of the Malvasia label shown at the MWG had been taken at this museum.
Best
