From a tasting at Pete's Fine Wines in Bellevue, WA, on December 14, 2008.
1987 Kopke Colheita
paired against Porto Rocha 20-yr Old Tawny Porto
Very similar in color to the Rocha, but softer looking. The highlights in the glass twinkle at you. Or maybe that's just the fact that this is my 15th tasting of the night. The nose is also softer and smoother, but otherwise similar. The caramel in this case shows up in the late palate, and is followed by a hint of vanilla. While the 20-yr old is rounder and richer, the Colheita is smoother and more focused.
Winner of the pair by a narrow margin.
