I decided to revisit this after reading a thread about another 1977 colheita.
This bottle was bottled post 2000 after 23+years in the barrel.
A beautiful nutty, dates , molasses dark honey nose.
A beautiful amber color, beautiful in the glass viewed with a full moon.
A very pleasant alcohol kick , not too hot.
Rich full mouthfeel. A little light at first but prevents the wine from tasting too sweet.
Flavors remind me of a Fortnum and Mason's Christmas puddding. Nutmeg, cloves. Also reminds me of my grandmother's date nut loaf.
Oatmeal cookies were good with this.
Those rich old fashioned caramel brown sugar flavors come through.
It has much in common and it is made much the same way as a fine old madeira.
I really love this style of fortified wine .
It is really not all that complex yet it has simple richness. Very nice full flavors on the top of the palate.
If pressed to give points I give 91 .
I hate giving points when it is just a very, very nice experience.
