1985 Royal Oporto Vintage Port -- Real Campanhia Velha

Post by simon Lisle »

Light bodied and just far to hot all the way through masked all the flavour,I've only had the oporto 80 many times before this which was average in most peoples palate but I liked it, so I bought a few others of different vintage this was very poor as Suckling quotes many times best to avoid

As I have said in my articles and TNs, Royal Oporto is best known for their wood aged Tawny Ports with an indication of age and Colheitas. In the past, they never made worthy Vintage Ports. That may be changing nowadays as California winemaker Jerry Luper has been slowly turning around this massive company. The name is Real Companhia Velha and the CA that Simon used is the abbreviation in Portuguese for what we in English use as Co. to represent "company." Check on Google and you will see the impressive resume of Jerry's, in case you have doubts that things are going to change. He is a really knowledgeable guy and very interesting to listen to in person.
