Best late 90's Single Quinta Vintage Port

Post by Carlos Rodriguez »

For you, which one is the best SQVP from 1995 to 1999? And your opinion of it.

It has to be a "second" brand, then you can't said Quinta Noval, Quinta Vesuvio, etc.

All those still have a good price, then let's see who is the winner.

Does Quinta do Passadouro count as a second brand or not? I'm under the impression they are their own company, but their 1997 was bottled by Niepoort. I've not had it yet, but I'm thinking of trying it out.

Hi Eric,
I also think that now they have their own conpany, but as before they bottled as Niepoort, it does count.

Carlos,
Those would all be awfully young ports, so not alot of tasting notes out there. I would conjecture that 1995 Taylor Vargellas or 1995 Fonseca Guimaraens are going to be best in that vintage range.

While not a blockbuster, one I've enjoyed for an earlier drinker was the 1999 Quinta do Roriz VP.

1995 Dow and Taylor are worth mentioning.

Hi Kurt,

I know that they still young, but some of them are already very nice. Have you try Bonfim 1998? I did it this year and it was very nice.

Carlos,
I like Dow's in any vintage. Have not tried the '98 yet. Sounds like a winner.

I also like Dow's. Is always a secure bet. Is not like the vintage, but is very nice and worth every cent of his price (last bottles I bought: 22.60€).
