Is your Port collection insured?

I know this is a personal question, but it is something that is important if god forbid anything were to happen to where you store your Ports.

Hmm... good question. I'll have to check my policy!

My guess would be no, since the insurance company would claim that it is a collection and not normal everyday food storage. I have another large collection (MtG cards from my days at Wizards of the Coast) that I know is not insured on our current policy, so that's what leads me to believe that the Port would not be insured either.

I don't believe mine are. Probably an oversight.

Yes. The offsite storage company I use offer full insurance as part of the storage fee and my home contents insurance covers the bottles I have at home and any that I have in my possession whilst away from home.

You know it makes sense

Unless it is covered by my standard homeowner's policy (which is probably unlikely), mine is not.

Obviously, this is a major oversight on my part. IS this something that is available as an addition to your standard homeowner's policy or does anyone know if this is something I can simply purchase on my own? Any ideas?

Most homeowners' policies do not cover collections of any sort by default, but you can buy additional riders to cover the collections if you want to. This helps the insurance company keep costs down for most people (who don't own expensive collections) while still allowing people like us to get coverage for our collections if we want it.

Just give your agent a call - it's pretty simple to add if you want it.
