Happy St. Georges Day, the day that TFP chooses to use as their declaration day.
Until I can get this worked out:
Croft - 6,800 cases produced
Fonseca - 9,300 cases
Taylor - 10,000 cases

Hi
Does anyone know if the Fladgate Partnership is going to declare Quinta da Eira Velha ( which they purchased in 2007 ) as a single quinta or is it just going to go in the blend. I thought they were going to try and keep the brand going - perhaps they will wait for another year as they only purchased it late in the year?
With thanks
Christopher

Chris,
Here is a response from Jorge Ramos at The Fladgate Partnership:
"We only purchased the property later in the year. We are still familiarizing ourselves with the property and as well as the wines from there."

I'll take that to mean no.

You should have become a surgeon or a rocket scientist instead of an officer of the law.

Thanks for the speedy response Roy, I am very much looking forward to following the progress of this Quinta and how they decide to develop it following it's acquisition.

They said I was over qualified
I too look forward to seeing how this quinta develops under their full ownership.

Obviously. How many other police officers do you know who are cultured enough to enjoy a good port?

The Taylor declaration makes no mention of Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha. Do you know whether a separate declaration of this is to be made this year?
Later,
Dr Owl

Jonathan,
Thank Derek, he is the one to post the letters, as I could not figure them out. I was immediately contacted by folks at Taylor to let me know that that was the British version. I am talking one half an hour after it was posted here and I did so between 1 and 2 a.m. Anyway, the difference is slight. In the UK they call the brand (Shipper) Taylor, whereas here in the USA it must be labeled Taylor Fladgate due to the other two Taylor companies in the USA (one each in CA and NY).
John O.,
Nice to see you drop by!
I have sent a query to TFP for you. I'll respond back when I hear, but often times the Vinha Velha is not released initially in the USA, if at all. I would assume given the economy, they would release these bottles later when the market place is more sound.
On another topic related to releases and declarations:
I have had some very interesting discussions that were promised to be kept off the record, re: pricing ... both in Portugal and with three US importers so far. All I can say is: there is still a LOT of jockeying and decision making going on even as recently as the past 48 hours. It will be interesting to see if wholesale prices for a few specific Shippers are going to make it over to the USA this week.

I must shut up now or risk being kept out of the loop.

John O.,
2007 Vargellas Vinha Velha was produced in very limited quantities.
