To buy or not to buy, that is the (stupid) question.

Here in Orlando, as in many other cities I guess, there is the "Main Street Program" which helps to revitalize neighborhood business centers. The wife and I attended the ?*****? ?**? "Wine Walk", where the merchants had dessert and wine samples to bring customers in after hours.

One of the shops was ?**? Wine Merchants, a shop I had never been in. I was immediately impressed by the layout of the store and the varieties of wine not offered by my usual wine merchant, Tim's Wine (about two miles away in the Lake Ivanhoe district, closer to downtown). I was browsing and found a decent dessert wine section where my wife spotted the one vin santo selection and I spied two madeiras (rather typical though). I made my way to the counter at the rear of the store and introduced myself to the proprietor.

"What vintage madeira selections might you be able to get in the store?" :?:

"Just a minute," was the reply. The fellow goes into the back room and reappears with a bottle in each hand.

"I have these from my private cellar, which I am trying to sell off."

:D BINGO! PLAYER CALLING BINGO! :D
{D'Olivera off the port (pun intended)bow!}

The proprietor has a 19?? Boal (have had 2 bottles) and a 19?? Sercial (never had before).

I asked him the price and there was not much haggling, except that he needed cash or a check since they were not store inventory. The wife, who thankfully encourages my lust for Frasqueira, agreed the price was excellent. Unfortunately, I did not have a check and do not usually walk around with $???.?? on me.

I have plans to return today to buy up both bottles. Details to be disclosed later.

The subject line was rather facetious :joker: , as I had no intention of passing over this opportunity. Vintage madeira is fairly difficult to come by in Central Florida.

The Orlando neighborhood involved is Audubon Park and the wine shop is Park Wine Merchants.

I was able to purchase a 1922 D'Olivera Boal for $300 and the 1937 D'Olivera Sercial for $250. The two are sitting on my wine bar right now, no wait, no shipping. I think the 1937 was generally market price, but the 1922 was a GREAT bargain (correct me if I am wrong).

The 1922 has a bottling date of 2005 (like the prior bottles I have purchased) and the 1937 has a bottling date of 2007. They will now sit next to the 1908 D'Olivera Boal until I decide which to open first. :winepour:

The proprietor, Tom, also gave me a list of bottles that he is liquidating, mostly pinot noir.

I finally determined how to attach a photo.

See tasting notes on 1937 sercial.
