Here is a little note to anyone who may have been reading about Andy and I's recent exploits in the Douro or lurking around wondering whether or not to take the plunge and visit the promised land sometime soon.

Like many here I have been on one of Roy's Harvest Tours and it was my first real introduction to the places and people that make Port. I had done the normal tourist route around the lodges of VNG two years earlier but the two experiences could not have been more different. If you are serious about your interest in Port and want or need someone to open doors to places you simply cannot access yourself then Roy's Harvest Tour is the place you need to go. Sacrifice some or all of your port buying budget if you need to, sell the kids and the wife if there are no other options - just sign-up and get yourself over there for an experience of a lifetime - you will not regret it

I think some of the hotels that Roy uses will do that at the Concierge desk. They know their customers well!

First everyone steals my use of "VP" and now my infamous "liver dry cleaning" lines go by the way side? I should have copyrighted both!

It's been almost one full year since I last visited a porcelain god
My training should be complete in 3 years .
By which time I will be 50 and I see no better way to celebrate than to find my way on a Harvest tour .

In 2012, you are going to have to soak up 180 Ports in a week. Start drinking more NOW.

That will be one great vintage and I can assure you, we'll try something from 1912 ... even if I have to bring a bottle along with me. Your 50th, represents my 55th and that is as good a reason as any to open such an oldie.

Come down for a Sandeman vertical... Actually we have a few bottles of Niepoort and would like to do a Niepoort vertical too. I assume between you & Fred, so you should be able to source a few vintages of Niepoort. I have '70 and '77.

It's not the wind that you have to worry about in the Douro - it's the purple crust that you'll be throwing from around day 2

We have another couple joining us for the Port Harvest Tour. Charlie and Marilyn from Houston, TX will be coming along for the experience!

Derek's plug reaffirms what I have been thinking for two years already: I must go!

As my kids get to be a bit older and a little less work on poor mom, who would remain at home with three of 'em, it will still be a bit before I get to go. I am targetting 2011 as 2010's budget will be sort of blown with a couple of triathlon-based trips (my other love.) That and the Harvest Tour would fall directly before my second race at the beginning of November.

I swear though - I will make it one of these days!
