What can we learn from Madeira Wine?

Last night I had a glass of 1839 Terrantez with an old friend. We were both very happy with this wine. He wore a T-Shirt "10 important things I learned from Star Trek" - very funny for an old Trekie like me. So we started making up things for a "10 important things I learned from Madeira wine" list. Here are a few candidates:
* Good things need time. (sometimes centuries...)
* Some things you can't buy for money. (like an Acciaioly Terrantez 1802...)
* There is joy in waiting and anticipating. (until that bottle is finally opened...)
* The good thing about temptation is to give in to it. (a french proverb - really)
Can you think of something else?

Not really, Peter.. You mentioned about the 1802.. It is rare now.. Long since it has been on sale . "Where have all these bottles gone ".. Reminds me of an old song ( "flowers" )

After having read so many enthusiastic TNs about the 1802, it is the top wine on my "wanted" list, but even for a lot of money it is no longer available. I just hope I'll get at least a chance to taste it some day, being the Terrantez lover that I am. And the really sad thing is, that this list of wanted wines that are no longer available, even at insane prices, seems to grow every day. I wish I would have started collecting Madeiras when I was in Kindergarden, instead of collecting matchbox cars...

Peter, can you post this list ( or mail me ) .. I have not been following availabity of wines for a year ot two, and I am not updated..
Will try to get more into this hobby coming winter again

By the way, I have a 1802 Barbeito Boal which I think is very rare ??

This is a very thought-provoking thread. Here are my contributions (some facetious).
You say boal, I say bual. Let's NOT call the whole thing off!
Madeira - Less filling AND tastes great!
Roy H. went to Funchal and all I got were tasting notes.
I'd walk a mile for an 1875 Barbeito Malvasia.
I never met a frasquiera I didn't like.
