Conference in Portugal

I have to organise a conference for around 20 people for 2½ days sometime in June.

Does anyone know of a location in the Douro region and within easy travelling distance of Oporto that I could consider using? Do any of the Quintas offer conference facilities in June? Are there any reasonably modern hotels that anyone can suggest that I look at for such a conference?

You can try the Vintage House hotel in Pinhao (http://www.hotelvintagehouse.com/menu.html), which is beautifully situated along the Douro river.

Another option is the Hotel Burmester (http://www.hotelburmester.com/) at Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo. The quinta and surroundings are beautiful, and you're literally in the middle of the vineyards. It is a bit further off the beaten path though.

So what kind of conference are you having in the Douro? Odd place to hold a biz meeting.

The UK is not a cheap place to hold a business meeting. If you book flights sufficiently far ahead you can fly from the UK to Oporto for around £50 return.

If the economics support it, it would mean that I could introduce a whole group of work colleagues to the wonderful world of port - and get our work done at the same time!

I've been noticing that UK citizens have been buying weekend / vacation houses in Portugal and this is not a recent trend since it has been like that for quite a while. .. Lot of that is explained by the inexpensive flights to/from UK :)
