Unfiltered.
As promised from an earlier post, here are my tasting notes. I got these in the post yesterday and I could not wait any longer to try one. Decanted and tasted immediately, then at one hour intervals. There was a small amount of sediment upon decanting through unbleached cheesecloth.
First opened at 5pm:
A dark ruby that is only a little bit lighter at the edge. A very pleasant nose of blueberry and just a hint of chocolate. A medium weight on the tongue, fruit is a bit too subdued right now, but a medium/long finish that has only a bit of heat that is not a distraction. Not bad at this point, 86/100.
6 PM (1 hour later):
Much darker after 1 hour. Now a dark purple center with a small and very dark ruby edge. The nose is a bit stronger now, with a bit more chocolate noticeable. It’s thickening up on the palate, not a lot but just noticeable. A fair amount of fruit, but I expected a bit more. The finish is still about the same. Not too complex, but enjoyable at this point. Still around 86/100.
7PM (2 hours later):
Color and nose about the same. The fruit has come out a bit more, and the finish is a bit stronger and longer now. Starting to shape up a little bit. 87/100
8PM (3 hours later):
Not much change from one hour ago. The finish is still getting a little better and longer, only now there seems to be bit more heat. Which normally I would complain about, but this seems to make the finish more complex and interesting. Still around 87
9PM (4 hours later):
Nose is blossoming a bit and has a subtle hint of spice on it. That little bit of heat is subsiding and allowing a bit more fruit to show thru. 88 now
10PM (5 hours later):
I poured a small glass then started to put the rest into a ½ bottle for the night. I realized I had a bit more than would fit into the ½ bottle, so I got a bigger taste this time around. ☺
Not much change. The finish has improved just slightly from one hour ago. Still around an 88.
I will update more tasting notes tomorrow after a nice bicycle ride to the beach and back. After all this is sunny southern California.
