In Flight First

Post by Roy Hersh »

I am flying ... yes, at this very moment ... and it is the first flight in which I have been able to connect to the Internet. This is a "promo" feature by United Airlines and they were handing out free WIFI sessions to all passengers. This is very cool and I truly hope it is the wave of the future. I know that Lufthansa used to offer this all the time and then got away from doing so.

I hope you have a glass of port in hand? [cheers.gif]

This is great news for the future of flying. Do they have power outlets to keep the juice in your battery?

Yes actually. I am in first class using FF miles and doing offline with TBird for the 3rd year in a row. Heading to NY for Thanksgiving and my family arrives there tomorrow, as Doe would not let me take Taylor out of school so we could all fly together.

No Port on board this flight. [dash1.gif]

I have to settle for a CA Chard and Shiraz from Oz for lunch.

Very cool!

Too bad about not having Port, though. :(

That certainly would have made the flight a bit more enjoyable. 8--)

You should have saved those miles to pay for a bonus flight to Oporto so that we could have had a civilised lunch on the Ribeira with a fine bottle of VP [cheers.gif]

I'm sure it varies by airline, but Northwest wanted 300,000 points PER PERSON to fly first class from Seattle to Porto. You can fly first class to NYC 5 times for that many points on most airlines.

And people wonder why they're now known as Delta.

Yes, using miles just doesn't make sense sometimes. Right now coach to Porto for me is less than $800. When it is significantly more than that, I'll use miles. Lately I've been getting domestic US fares for under $300. When I had a wedding to go to in the US and United wanted $600, that's when I used my miles. There are no cheap fares to Africa, so I have miles saved for that trip when I can afford the rest of it.
