Just returned from Porto

Well I just returned from Europe yesterday, including my first trip to Porto. It was definitely amazing, although little did I know that last Tuesday is a Portuguese holiday. Even still, I managed to visit the majority of the caves open to the public. One of the highlights of the tour was visiting Vinologia's.

After walking into Vinologia's, I mentioned to the bartender that I was there on the recommendation of :ftlop:. The bartender happened to be Goncalo and we ended up talking and tasting port for hours! Some of the treats included:

Dalva's 1952 Golden White Colheita - this was amazing! and approaching the last year of bottling (300 or so left)
Krohn's 1964 White Colheita
Romariz's 1963 Colheita
Romariz's Over 40 yrs old Tawny
Sao Pedro Das Aguias' Over 40 Years Tawny
Quinta do Porto Estanho's 20 Years Old Tawny (limited edition) - tasted with the regular 20 years old and this one was noticeably different (and tastier!)
Quinta Santa Eufemia's 40 Years Old Tawny
Quinta Santa Eufemia's 30 Years Old Tawny

Just a wonderful tasting overall!

I'll be posting my tasting notes in the week to come.

Goncalo - A big thank you for the tastings and sharing your knowledge. I will be back someday!

Roy,

I also saw that bottle of 1912 Maderia there from your last harvest tour (I believe). Looks like I was a few months too late [cheers.gif]

Markus,

I am very glad you got to meet Goncalo and drink some very nice Ports. Sounds like you had a great time and I look forward to hearing more about it. Where else did you go and what Lodges did you visit?

I look forward to reading your tasting notes so please post them all, even if they are short notes.

Hi Markus,

first of all, thank you very much for the kind words...and if you allow me, just rectify the Romariz Over 40y old, because the one that you had was the Quinta da Romaneira Over 40y Old blended with the year 1935 (50% of the blend)...

You tasted a zip from the last bottle that we have of this wonderful nectar.

Next time we´ll meet in Vancouver, and I hope that you give me to taste a nice Ice Wine [friends.gif]
