Hello,

My name is Anna Maldonado, an American . I live and work here in Bangkok. Thailand . Actually when I was around last time , I got a bottle of one of your wines from a friend as a gift and I love the taste .Since then , I have been planning on getting your wines for my birthday party ...coming up soon here in Bangkok. Thailand. I got your contact through your website and I want to know if you will be able to supply me some cases of wines for my upcoming birthday I will be making my payment via my American based credit card . I am registered with a shipping agency here in Bangkok. Thailand, which has representatives in USA . So you are not get the wines shipped but the wines will be picked up at your winery by this licensed shipping agency .The shipping agency have all the appropriate exportation documents and permits . Therefore concerning the shipping of the wines , I will refer you to this shipping company that will come for the pick up of the wines in your winery once I have made my payment . They have got like items shipped to me here twice without any delay . Kindly get back to me so that I can make my orders .

Thanks.

Anna

And if you say yes, someone comes to pick up the wine, but has a check which is too big, wants to go to your bank and (you) cash it, take the overage in cash (and the wine) and vanish forever. The check will bounce in a couple of weeks, leaving you without the cash (and the wine). Or, you might need to advance some money to bribe a customs inspector. "Please send it by Western Union so it can't be traced."

That might work with a desperate winery. You are on a specialized list of wineries and wine distributors for some reason.

This is a pretty narrowly focused scam, IMHO. D'you feel like putting the cuffs on the "shipping agent"? You might answer 'yes' and see what happens. Think hard though; people have tried to get cute with the Nigerian 419 Scam ("I have a dormant xxxMillion$$ bank account; would you like to pretend to be the Heir and share it with me?"), and been killed, or kidnapped for ransom, when they got too close.

Reading them closely, all these scams boil down to, "Hi! I just cheated somebody (or some government/business), and now I'd like you to trust me." See "Advance-fee fraud" on Wikipedia.

It is so very tempting to grab this phishing line and yank it back.

Like I said, some people have tried this and found big teeth on the other end. You don't want to end up with a 12' Mako in the boat with you.

Everything about that email says SCAM, but I'd guess that someone along the way might think that they might be able to move a few cases of wine and bite at the opportunity.

I said tempting. I recall one case of someone getting back at scammers in Europe, the UK as I recall. The scammers were going to buy a Mac notebook computer from someone. The seller smelled the bad phish and sent them a box with a notebook (binder) in it or something like that. Of course the payment didn't pan out, but the scammers had to pay some large and unwarranted customs fee to get their notebook. I can't find the original article, but try these

Relate? Not at all. But since we are talking emails and SPAM I thought it very possible his system thought it was SPAM. Or his computer had a little too much Port and didn't receive it. [bye2.gif]
