Port buys from consignment

Am considering stocking up for the future. Many 2003's, 2000's as well as SQ's of various vintages as well as VP's of the 90 decade appear to be good value for the cellar. However am thinking about some 70 and 80 decades VP for more immediate enjoyment. I stumbled across some oldies at wineconsigners .
Am a relative newby and could really use some advice. Has anyone had any luck with this ? (I know that the deal is buyer beware

.... so while I'm a big boy and it would not be the first time a dissapointment came by etc.).
Any advice would be well received.. Thanks, Dale

I have used Wine Consigners in the past and every purchase has been fine. They seem to be very careful about descriptions and try their best to make sure that you're getting what you want. I've had them offer to send me pictures before just so that I could see the bottle up close before buying.

I have not bought from them. They did, however, have some colheita that interested me. I e-mailed and asked about the bottling date, which turned out to be too long past to interest me. But they were responsive and up front about that.

I've never seen the site before, but I'm sorely tempted by some of teh 1977s they have (my birth year). Seem like an almost suspicoiusly good price, but if you guys will vouch for them....

Be careful. I've purchased from them in the past and received VPs that were not exactly as described (recorked bottles, ect.) and their customer service once I brought this to their attention leaved quite a bit to be desired.

How long ago, Marc? All of my purchases from them have been in the last year, and they've been almost compulsively detailed about the bottles I've purchased.
I wonder if they had a problem in the past, but have since gone overboard the other way trying to correct it?

This purchase was just a little under a year ago. The bottle has a label that clearly states that it had been recorked, but this was never disclosed to me. In fact Wine Consigners flatly said that I was wrong, but upon further checking they located the paperwork from Sotheby's (they had purchased this bottle from Sotheby's a few years earlier) that stated that it had been recorked. No apology & certaintly nothing that even approaching customer service was forthcoming from them. I must say that I was very disappointed by the experience and would be leery of purchasing from them in the future.

I inquired about their 1977 Warre's. The website indicated they had individual bottles for sale. When I sent in an email, they responded by saying they had no more of the individual botttles, that they would have to break a case up and that as a result the cost would be about $20 more than advertised. I'm thinking about asking about one of their other advertised individual bottles to see if this is an upselling tactic rather than an unlucky happenstance.

I suspect unlucky happenstance, as I have purchased several singles from them (with cases available).
I know of at least two others who purchase from them regularly and who consider them to be their "secret source" for good Port at good prices.

Glad to hear that Glenn. Their prices do look very attractive.
