1999 Quinta do Noval LBV Port

Post by jon bricken »

Part of a case purchased which I have been working through slowely to see how an LBV ages (still seven left).
Decanted for 6 hrs. Initial smell is overwhelming prunes and a quick hint of blue fruits.
In the glass the wine is still opaque without even a slight hint of bricking out. As I swirl the wine it shows great legs, which slowly recede down the sides of the glass. First sip and the nose is translated to the palate with heavy prunes, faint blueberries and little hint of nutmegy cinnamon on the finish. Nice acidity which keeps the wine fresh and balanced. Finish is medium long but overall the wine is still verry primary and a big mouthful. It definately has not developed any secondary characterisitics which I love in older bottles. I drank the bottle over two days/nights and not much change which tells me that it is still relatively young and will go for a long time. I won't open anpother for at least two years and that might not be enought time to get it where I would like to see it.
For the $ a very good value.
I think this is a clasic example of what Roy says about buying wines on release and KNOWING their provenance.
