So, who has already seen ALICE IN WONDERLAND IN 3D? [1974_eating_popcorn.gif]

I haven't seen it at all, never mind in 3D [bye2.gif]

I'm waiting for the DVD. I might miss the 3D, but I won't have to put up with a commercial theater. I am fond enough of Lewis Carroll to watch ANY version of Alice, at least once.

I understand that there is another version of Alice in the works, as well. I'm waiting for that one, too.

My wife and daughter saw it last weekend while I was vinously immersed in LA/Ontario CA. They both loved it. Although I think Johnny Depp is a very adept actor, his fanciful roles are usually way over the top for me. However, for me this is to see the 3DFX. I saw the coming attraction before the beginning of Avatar and whereas that film used the 3D in the background, this seems to be very "in your face" with images flying toward you off the screen. I like that type of effect. So, I will take my two favorite girls either tomorrow or Sunday, so they can see it again and I get the popcorn. Refills definitely not as convenient as at Peter's theater, but then again ... Michigan is quite a ride.

I was really hoping that someone here had seen it, but I guess I'll have to report back after checking it out in the next 48 hours.

I'm glad to see your review, Roy, because those 3D images that fly toward you off the screen aren't to my liking. So I'll probably just see it in 2D.

The 3D in Avatar worked for me precisely for the reason you mention - it added great depth with only occasional effects in the foreground. Those worked for me when they were things you didn't need to focus on - such as the cinders during the fire or the floating seeds from the tree of souls - but were problematic for me when it was something you might try to track with your eye such as a soldier running toward and past you.

I am looking forward to Alice, but didn't know whether or not to see it in 3D. Now I do, thanks!

I was talking about the original - I didn't even know it had been re-made [help.gif]

I'm not a pop-out effects fan, so I may opt to see it in 2D.

Original? You mean the silent version made in 1903? It's been made into one sort of movie or other over 20 times, including at least one pornographic version.

This book has better endurance than all but the very best ports. It's 145 years old and has NEVER been out of print in that time. I have at least 8 copies around here, including a facsimile of the original hand-lettered Alice's Adventures Underground that Dodson gave to Alice Liddell; also Annotated Alice and More Annotated Alice with commentaries and explanations of the historical references and logic puzzles by Martin Gardner (mathematician, logic expert and former columnist for Scientific American); I also have pastiches and parodies of Alice. I tend to re-read it every few years. Judging by the number of authors that make references to Alice, it may be one of the most influential books of all time.

That''s the one I'm talking about. Are you seriously telling me there are other versions? [bye2.gif]

Typical of a 7 year old girl, my daughter was not feeling up to going to the movies an hour ago and has now changed her mind. So after lunch we shall go see ALICE.

So we went to Alice and I liked it, my daughter loved it but I was a bit surprised. The movie's FX were much more sedate than I thought and very little popping off the screen things like I remembered from the previews last month. So it was much tamer visually (except for amazing depth of colors) than Avatar, but the story was so much better. For those with kids, a definite worthy experience. This is not one that I would widely recommend to adults without kids though. B+ for me.

I think this will be a 2D experience for us. I'll probably miss the full impact of the special effects, but I'm O.K. with that. Now Avatar is a movie that MUST be seen in 3d - IMHO.
