1994 Burmester LBV Port

Post by Derek T. »

I bought this amongst a collection of old bottles on ebay for £11. No idea how it has been stored since bottled in 1998. First time I have seen an LBV from Burmester.

Small amount of sediment left in the bottle - I confirmed later from the Burmester website that this is an unfiltered LBV. Very dark pinkish red colour and wonderfully powerful smell of red fruits. Initial taste (@ 1 minute 8) ) is packed with cherry's and just a little heat in the finish. Light mouth feel.

After 2 hours - fruity nose had faded a bit but still detectable. Now very smooth and silky mouth feel and heavier than before. Good tannins pulling in the cheeks. More heat now but nothing to spoil the taste. Still lots of cherry's.

Will be haiving more tonight and will post an update.

At this point I would say this is a very good LBV for the price. I checked wine-searcher and, although no 94's showing, other vintages are going for as little as £7 + tax  - a definate QPR port.
