Hello Roy et al.

Long time listener first time caller. What do you guys know about Justino Madeira. There's some older stuff floating around as well as Rainwater on sale at $10.49 and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them...

Thanks in advance.

Hi Alan,

How are you doing? 'Tis been awhile since that famous evening with Chris, Michel and my brother last summer. I hope all is well in the land of Chablis. Welcome to FTLOP and glad to see you join in the discussion. For those of you that don't know Alan, he has dedicated his time and energy to becoming one of the world's greatest experts on Chablis and last time I saw him, was writing the quintessential book on the subject.

Now to your question ...

I was at Justinos in Nov. 2005 and in April will be incorporating my tasting notes into an article. There are some that feel that they are just a bulk producer of mediocre Madeiras. Although they certainly produce the kions share of wines from the Island, they also make an impressive lineup of Vintage Madeiras and a variety of other styles as well. They can afford to do Buyer's Own Brand in bulk for the UK market as well as inexpensive Rainwater, 3 and 5 year olds. But there is no doubt tthat their top end wines deliver great drinking pleasure too. I will get far more specific and elaborate next month.

Keep on posting! Nice to have you with us.

Thanks for for the info and intro. I'm looking forward to your newsletter for more info.

Perhaps I'll giva a few of their wines a whirl in some different price ranges and then post back here again.
