Noval Black

This was available at my local Costco for $14.59. So of course I picked up a bottle. This will be my first Ruby Port. Sounds like it should be consumed within 3-4 days after opening. Would anyone let it go any longer?

I've never been able to make a bottle last longer than 3-4 days...and a bit of Deja-vu as I'm drinking a glass of Black as I type this :yumyum:

A stellar bottle and I'm glad it's retailing most places for less than the $22 it was originally slated to be. In the $15-18 range it's a no-brainer for buying a case for a daily sipper.

Steve,

Although I believe it is better on day 2 and 3, I don't think it will get any better from there. So there's no reason to wait or hold back on your consumption.

Great to hear the positive reviews. Not sure if I have seen on the shelf yet, but will make a point to pick up a bottle now!

I saw in in NYC for $22, at a store I wouldn't expect to have great prices. I haven't seen it here in Colorado yet, but haven't been looking hard either.

Just saw it here in Minnesota on sale for $17.99. I might go pick up a few more on monday.

The first one I had was great on day 2 and 3, and then seemed to peter out, though still tasty on days 4-10. Just my 2c.

Eric,

My brother is in CO and I know he bought several bottles already. Then again, he certainly may have had them shipped from CA or elsewhere. Waiting to save the very last dollar to buy a bottle just makes no sense to me. Even if one can find it at say, $17 instead of $21, should that be the deciding factor? [berserker.gif]

And the above question and thought is not directed at Eric, moreso anyone who is waiting to see why others are providing such positive notes and enjoying such a fine bottling of QPR+ Port, without dipping a toe in the water. [shrug.gif]

It looks as though Costco is carrying Noval Black (at least in CA.) and at a really decent price as well.

Sweet! I'll have to swing by mine to see if they have it. It's a lot closer than driving all the way to Hi-Times.

$21 vs $17 wasn't the deciding factor at all. I was in NYC and didn't want to cart them back this trip. If I saw a bottle in a local store at $17 or $21 I'd grab one, but I haven't been looking hard. My recent hard looking has been for 1994 Taylor, and 2007 Port and CdP.

Well, I finished off the bottle of Noval Black last night and found it to be very drinkable at the $15 price point. Tonight I am enjoying a glass of the Broadbent 10 year Malmsey from a bottle opened about 2 weeks ago. This may not be a fair comparison, and I know I'm not a Port lover like many of you, but the Broadbent REALLY delivers the goods. I plan further my Port education soon under the tutelage of Professor Hersh, but for now I'll stick to Madeira! [foilhat.gif]
