| 1963 Croft’s Vintage Port – One of the coldest winters in many years took place in 1963 and was followed by plenty of rain during the spring time. The cool weather lasted for most of the growing season except for some hot spells during July and August. Pretty to look at, a brick ruby color with a pink meniscus. I loved the nose, with geraniums and a mocha/Kirsch note that I found captivating. Rich and smooth as a freshly frosted ice rink, the cherry berry is unmistakable and delicious. There is a slight hint of hazelnuts on the back end of the sip and some mostly resolved tannins that show up on the aftertaste. Very enjoyable and texturally pleasing every bit as much as the flavor profile. This should continue to impress through 2020. I feel grateful to have tried this 3x in the past nine months. 90 points ~ 7/6/08 |
