2001 Quinta do Crasto LBV Port - bottled Unfiltered in 2007. Dark crimson color. I enjoyed this over the course of five days to see how it would evolve and where the "sweet spot" was. It was initially decanted for six hours and with a glass removed, put back in the bottle, recorked and held at 68 degrees. I enjoyed the first glass but the nose and palate were both quite reserved. It was considerably better the second day and was like a walk in the garden with fresh flowers blooming, also yielding scents of plum, mocha and a bit of spirit. Actually this showed at its very best on the third and fourth day it was open, as it had gained considerable viscosity and was now a full-fledged heavy weight. The 2001 Crasto exhibits a rich and chewy demeanor with palate pleasing prune, boysenberry and chocolate flavors. It's a boisterous LBV, full of character and with plenty of upside potential, yet the tannins are refined and the finish is persistent. Very enjoyable today but it will cellar well for a decade from here. Quinta do Crasto is a name you can trust when buying LBV Port!
