Re: 1986 Delaforce colheita
$13 a bottle sounds like a ridiculously good price for those. I think I paid something in the $25 range for one a few years ago. Here were my notes: Fully tawny in color - golden at the edges with only a slight hint of red left. Good intensity on the nose showing hazelnut, marmalade, cinnamon, vanil...

2003 Fonseca Vintage Port
Decanted through cheesecloth into a decanter and then back into the rinsed bottle and recorked. Consumed over a three day stretch. 1-3hrs Opaque, blackish maroon at the core, though not inky, with red and purple highlights on the rim. The nose is very expressive - I was enjoying it thoroughly even a...

Re: I have 5 bottles...where to go from here?
Wine-searcher.com is very useful as well, but unless you pay for the premium version, it will only give you an abbreviated list of shops selling what your searching for. Yes, but those shops are almost always within a buck or two of the absolute best price available. The "sponsor" shops t...

Re: I have 5 bottles...where to go from here?
The method I've been using recently is Googling whichever particular bottle I'm looking for and then going to the results for "Shopping". Then, change the "sort by" option at the top of the page to "Price - lowest to highest". That way you can easily find the lowest pri...

Re: New guy question...Noval 2003 LBV
So I just shopped around the local stores and this is what i found. As far as I can tell there isn't a good deal in the whole group. Let me know if you think differently. The Dow '77 was an interesting find. The store owner said that there aren't many of the magnums around. Fonseca 2003 VP --$100 W...

Re: Which 1985 VP is the best
I've had a good number of VPs from 85 and for me the Fonseca and Graham's are tops, with the Graham's being more developed. The Taylor is also delicious, but not up to the level of those two IMO.

Well it isn't just for breakfast anymore! I had never heard this expression before but my wife used it almost exactly, today on my Facebook page when writing about a Madeira I had before breakfast last Friday morning. Now here it is again ... for the 2nd time. It must be nearing another Blue Moon. ...

Hmmm... I certainly hope the bottle I purchased does a better job of living up to the hype. I guess we'll see what happens when I open it next month... ![Praying [beg.gif]](./images/smilies/beg.gif)

8 days later and this has only become more impressive. Today I'm getting brown sugar, cream soda, marzipan and nougat on the nose... outstanding. I think I'm starting to see the reason for the praise. And ummm.... yes, I'm drinking port for lunch ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

10 Year Old Tawny Port by Quarles Harris
An amber/copper color with burnt orange and strawberry highlights. Some tangy fruit notes on the nose - maraschino cherry, strawberry and mandarin orange - backed by warm hazelnuts and a touch of spices. The first day this was opened the spirit was showing quite raw and hot on the palate, but after ...

2000 Broadbent Vintage Port
These notes were taken after about 18 hrs in the decanter: Dark, almost opaque burgundy with a wide, cherry-red edge. The nose opened up quite well overnight and shows raspberry/boysenberry fruit, milk chocolate, a bit of earthiness, and a stemmy/spirity flourish. There are nice cherry/red berry fla...

Re: Quinta Do Estanho 1994 VP
I recently bought three mid-nineties vintage ports at bargain prices ($18-$26) from the same store and all of them had this same cooked/oxidized character. In fact, only one of them was even palatable to me. All three bottles had dried out corks that crumbled when I opened them and all three bottles...

2007 Quarles Harris Vintage Port
I found this at Trader Joe's in Manhattan selling for $34.99 and figured it would be a good choice to sacrifice for the VT. I drank it over a four day period. Not quite inky in color, but an opaque purple showing some deep burgundy highlights on the bright rim. This definitely needed extended decant...

Re: Trader Joe's has 2007 Quarles Harris
Trader Joe's in Manhattan (14th St) has the QH 07 VP for $34.99. I bought a pair last week and just finished drinking a bottle (notes to be posted shortly) which I enjoyed very much. Today I went back to replace the bottle I drank and also picked up a bottle of the QH 10yr Tawny for $15.99. They als...

Re: NV Ferreira 20yr Tawny
Roy,
I would have to agree. A few days of air have given the nose a more lifted quality and the heat is nicely integrated. Great stuff - I'm already down to about a third of the bottle![Yum Yum :yumyum:](./images/smilies/st2_yumyum.gif)
